These days, my podcast playlist looks a bit different...
I’ve swapped marketing shows for ones about motherhood.
I worried I’d fall behind on the latest marketing insights — but parenting podcasts are more relevant to my field than I originally thought.
One that stuck with me came from a show called Talking Toddlers, where host Erin Hyer said:
👉 “If you want attention and engagement from your toddler, you need to be the most interesting thing in the room.”
She meant it literally — you have to outshine the toys, TV, and every other distraction.
Hey, isn’t that marketing, too? 👀
Our feeds are packed with competing content, and attention is scarce.
It’s not enough to show up. You have to put on a show.
The same way I sing, dance, or make silly faces to hold my daughter's attention, brands need to put in ⚡️energy⚡️ to earn engagement.
Your content should pull people in and hold them there. That could mean:
- Telling a story
- Adding a creative twist they didn’t see coming
- Making them laugh
- Showing your personality
- Sparking conversation with a question
- Sharing a new perspective
- Using visuals that catch their eye
- Sharing something genuinely helpful or inspiring
This is how you become a brand worth noticing.
So whether you’re raising a toddler or raising brand awareness, the rule is the same: ✨ Be the most interesting thing in the room.
